Refund Policy

Last updated: 4 October 2026 · Version 2.0

This page explains when you get money back: for lessons with a teacher who uses MyOwnTeach, and for teachers' own MyOwnTeach subscriptions. If something has gone wrong with a card payment made in the app, we'd rather sort it out with you than have you dispute it with your bank. Email us first at support@myownteach.com.

1. Lessons

Each teacher sets their own cancellation policy, and you see it before you book. It has two parts: a cancellation window and a late-cancellation refund.

  • Cancel in good time, full refund. If you cancel before the teacher's window (24, 48 or 72 hours before the lesson, depending on the teacher), you get a full refund.
  • Cancel late. Inside the window, the teacher's late-cancellation refund applies: 100%, 50% or nothing, depending on the teacher. You see the figure when you book.
  • If the teacher cancels. A lesson the teacher cancels is refunded in full, whenever they cancel.

2. How the money comes back

It depends on how you paid.

  • By card in the app. Refunds go back to your card through Stripe, in the currency you paid in. They usually show within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank. Where a lesson was paid from account credit, the credit goes back on your account straight away.
  • Directly to the teacher (PayPal, Wise, bank transfer, cash or similar). The refund is between you and your teacher. MyOwnTeach isn't a party to those payments and can't send or reverse them, so ask your teacher.

3. Teacher subscriptions

Paid MyOwnTeach plans renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you've paid for: you keep access until then and aren't billed again. We don't give partial refunds for a month or year that has already started. If we've charged you by mistake, we'll refund it.

Students don't pay MyOwnTeach anything, so there's nothing to refund on that side.

4. How to ask for a refund

For a lesson paid by card in the app, use Cancel on the lesson itself. Any refund due under your teacher's policy is worked out and sent automatically. For anything else about a lesson, talk to your teacher first. To cancel a subscription, use the billing settings in your account.

If a card refund hasn't come through, or something looks wrong with a charge from MyOwnTeach, email support@myownteach.com and we'll look into it.

5. Your rights where you live

Nothing in this policy takes away any refund or cancellation rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country you live in. This policy sits alongside our Terms of Service.
